About the Project
Kairos Community College is a Special Assistance School catering for young people for whom mainstream schooling hasn’t quite worked. They provide students with a quality educational program with a strong well-being focus, and an opportunity for students to forge new paths to create a meaningful future.
Prima Commercial Fitotus were asked to revamp Kairos’s Caloundra Campus to make a warm and welcoming space for students to learn, and feel safe and supported.

The Brief
Kairos Community College approached us to update their Caloundra Campus to provide a nice environment for their students to come and learn. As many of Kairos’s students had experienced a tough time at school before coming to Kairos, it was very important that students could come to school every day and feel comfortable.
As the Caloundra Campus is located in the old Caloundra Scout Hall, the building suffered from acoustic issues both within classrooms and in sound transmission between classrooms.
It had been a long time since the campus received its last renovation and certain areas, in particular the bathroom areas, were in a dilapidated state.
We were given a small budget to make a big impact and we worked hard to design and construct a solution for the students at Kairos that made them happy to come to school every day.
The Result
We knew that making a significant difference to this space on a shoestring budget was going to be a challenge but we were determined to get the best results for the team and students at Kairos.
Lifting some of the functional areas such as the bathrooms and kitchen was a must. The bathrooms were upgraded with modern fittings and fixtures, and the doors and trims were finished in beautiful oak timber. We retiled the floors and to keep costs down we painted the Bessa block walls creating an overall modern look.
A key feature of the project delivery was the installation of a stylish acoustic ceiling designed to significantly reduce noise pollution and sound transmission between classrooms.
To further keep costs to a minimum Kairos reused the furniture they already had.
We were proud to deliver this project on time and within budget and provide a really attractive, functional, and welcoming space for Kairos and their students.
